Environmental Specialist

(Sacramento, CA)

 

First Environment has rewarding opportunities within its GHG management consulting practice for self-motivated team players with strong quantitative skills; an environmental background; and ability for research, analysis, and communication of findings and opinions.

 

Initial responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assisting with development of GHG inventories, GHG emission reduction projects, and other GHG management systems, tools, and products
  • Supporting verification of GHG inventory and reduction project statements
  • Collecting, managing and analyzing quantitative information
  • Conducting independent policy and technical research on a variety of climate change, GHG management and other general environmental issues
  • Identifying and evaluating GHG management best practices
  • Preparing deliverables and presenting findings to clients and other relevant stakeholders

Qualified candidates must possess the following credentials:

  • Degree in Engineering, Math, Environmental Science/Policy or the Physical Sciences; advanced degree a plus
  • A minimum of two-three years work experience
  • Strong quantitative/technical/analytical abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience and knowledge of industrial operations and processes
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail, and commitment to quality
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Team player with a proactive personality and a high degree of self motivation

Preferences

  • Knowledge of greenhouse gas (GHG) policy frameworks (UNFCCC, federal, state, and especially California’s AB32) and GHG accounting best practices
  • Experience and knowledge of air quality concepts and emission quantification methodologies
  • Knowledge of auditing processes
  • Understanding of energy and electricity generation and distribution concepts
  • Understanding of oil and gas exploration, refining, and transmission operations
  • Understanding of cement manufacturing operations
